Support the Project
Join us! By making a donation, you can help us seek truth and justice at last. And thanks to our media partnerships, your support will help bring the truth to tens of millions of people. Your contribution is tax-deductible.
The Cold Case project is a collaboration involving the Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR), Paperny Films, and WNET.org. Your contribution will be managed by CIR, an award-winning, non-profit organization that since 1977 has revealed injustice and strengthened democracy through the tools of journalism.
The project has gratefully received grants from Atlantic Philanthropies, Ethics in Excellence in Journalism Foundation, Open Society Institute, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. But we cannot continue to develop this project without additional philanthropic support.
How Will Your Donation Be Used?
You can help fund the reporters and editors, travel expenses, databases, participation of law and journalism students, television documentary production and more. For instance, at our request, the federal government has released tens of thousands of previously undisclosed documents, critical to our investigations. But these requests often cost a few thousand dollars to process.
Your support also will help us create a more extensive website, offering rich interactive tools you can use to learn much more about these crimes. Maps and timelines will link to source documents such as FBI file scans, photographs, eyewitness accounts, and audio and video footage. You’ll be able to read the journalists’ blogs and offer tips for the investigations.
By supporting this project, you will be part of a historic effort to uncover truth and justice at last and to foster reconciliation.
The Civil Rights Cold Case Project is not for the South alone. We all live with this legacy. Together, we can help heal it and prevent such violence from ever happening again.
